Serengeti Under Canvas

Serengeti National Park, Tanzania, Southern Africa

&Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas is a semi-permanent tented camp that moves around the Serengeti to remain within range of the large herds of the Great Migration.

The Wildlife

The Serengeti is home to millions of large herbivores and other species of plains-dwelling mammals and prolific birdlife. The mobile nature of our &Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas camps means that they are well suited to give guests a unique experience of the Great Migration, as well as the Serengeti’s other wildlife riches. Each year, almost two million wildebeest, zebra, eland and Thomson’s gazelle follow the annual rains through the Serengeti and the adjacent Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya in search of prime grazing. As the huge herds of herbivores move across the plains they are folloed by lion, hyena and cheetah, vultures and jackal.

Guest Facilities

The ultimate in luxury camping, complete with a private butler service, chandeliers, silverware, crystal, ensuite flush w.c. and comfortable beds with fluffy duvets, this is a classic Tanzanian safari in wonderful solitude and comfort - with only the walls of your tent between you and the wonders of the Serengeti.

Always carefully positioned to be near the wildlife herds of the Great Migration, our two &Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas camps provide the best viewpoints for this amazing animal spectacle. With only nine tents available at each camp, enjoy the complete comfort while spending your in true African bush.

Serengeti Under Canvas Camp Features

Planned to keep guests as near the natural spectacle of the Great Migration as possible, the two &Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas camps are situated at a variety of private campsites throughout the national park and move according to the path of the migratory herds so that a comfortable drive brings guests into the midst of moving masses of wildebeest and zebra, ready to witness this natural drama as herds brave obstacles and predators to reach rich grasslands.

A sitting and dining tent provides deep sofas from which to watch the vastness and peace of the surrounding landscape. A campfire every night offers the opportunity to share the experiences and sights of the day while enjoying the brights stars in a sky unpolluted by lights other than the moon.

A Day at Serengeti Under Canvas

Morning Game Drive

As dawn breaks over the Serengeti, your butler wakes you up with a tray of tea, coffee and homemade biscuits waiting outside your tent. Climb into an open 4x4 safari vehicle with your guide and set off in search of the massed herds of the Great Migration. If the herds have already moved on into Kenya, your guide will introduce you to the rich resident wildlife.

Breakfast

After a morning spent tracking down wildlife, return to the camp for a hearty bush breakfast. Enjoy platters with toast, jams and marmalades, muesli, fresh fruits and assorted cheeses. Hot breakfasts are prepared on the open fire, with eggs, omelettes, frittatas and freshly cooked pot breads.

Lunch

After breakfast, enjoy a hot bucket shower or perhaps a quick nap before lunch. Lunch platters are served in the shade of the dining tent.

Afternoon Tea

While away the afternoon hours with a good book and a chilled glass of wine in the guest tent or simply watch the wonders of the bush directly from your tent's veranda. Afternoon tea, with a selection of light snacks, will be served in the late afternoon.

Afternoon Game Drive

Depart on an afternoon game drive as the heat of the day starts to cool down. Keep an eye out for lion, leopard, hyena and jackal gearing up for their nocturnal hunts.

Dinner

Arriving back at the camp, cocktails are served around a blazing fire. Dine under the stars on a delicious bush meal cooked on the open fire. After dinner, enjoy desserts, served with tea, coffee or cognac. Sharing stories with other guests around a glowing campfire is part of the African evening tradition. You will then be escorted back to your tent.

The people at &Beyond's camp

At the camp, quite a number of friendly people will await your arrival. Highly trained, professional, passionate and knowledgeable guides and trackers and chefs, butlers, housekeepers, security and workshop staff trained with the same care as the field staff - all of them aim to ensure you have an experience of a lifetime, with their motivation settled in the wish to see you again - next time!
