Phinda Private Game Reserve is situated between the famous Mkuze Game Reserve and iSimangaliso Wetland Park in the Zululand region in Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa. It covers about 23 000 hectares of prime conservation land. For accommodation it offers six luxury safari lodges suitable for wonderful luxury african safari holidays.

Of these six diverse lodges, Rock Lodge, Vlei Lodge and Zuka Lodges are small and romantic, with Mountain Lodge and Forest Lodge offering a bit more of a buzz with larger capacity and the finally, Homestead Lodge that is wonderful for one group at a time.

African Wildlife Diversity

Set near the Indian Ocean coastline, and one of the newest Kwazulu-Natal game reserves, Phinda Private Game Reserve is well known for its African wildlife, diversity of habitats and wildlife safari activities. With predators such as cheetah, leopard and lion encountered daily, visitors stand an extremely good chance of observing these beautiful animals. White rhino, herds of elephant and buffalo move throughout the reserve and are frequently seen. Antelopes like nyala, impala and kudu are sometimes accompanied by warthog. 

African Wildlife Safaris

Evening safaris may reveal predators like Leopard, Lion, Lynx, and other nocturnal animals like aardvark, bushpig and greater bushbaby. Scarce antelopes like Mountain reedbuck may be found on rocky slopes and the Common reedbuck in the wetlands.

Coastal Safaris

Being so near the coast enables the lodges in Phinda to offer a number of activities on the beaches and the sea, like scuba diving, fishing and even turtle watching. It also offers great birding with 415 species recorded at Phinda as well as reef diving.

Best Time to Travel to Phinda Game Reserve

Year round. Lush and hot in summer, with an abundance of young animals. The vegetation becomes thinner in the dry winter months and the cooler temperatures allow for best all-round game viewing.

Flights to Phinda

Scheduled flights are available directly from Johannesburg to Phinda on some days of the week. Scheduled domestic flights are available from Johannesburg to Durban International Airport or Richards Bay Airport. Self-drive is possible from Johannesburg or Durban.
