Reasons to visit
A luxury African safari holiday lodge is on offer at Mnemba Island, which has been described by some as one of the three most romantic places on earth.
One would not expect a huge wildlife experience on such a tiny island, but there are actually two tiny antelope species. The Dik-Dik and the Steenbok.
The scarcity of land animals are being made up for with the abundance of wildlife on the surrounding coral reefs and sea-life.
Due to the small size of the island, it is virtually impossible to build another luxury boutique hotel or other accommodation on the island.

Mnemba Island
Mnemba Island, often called Mnemba atoll is strictly not an atoll island, since an atoll normally has an atoll around a lagoon and not an island like the case is with Mnemba. In the language use of the people, Mnemba Island is turned into Mnemba Atoll because it has a round circle of coral reef around the island. Although it is a tiny island, it is a big attraction for snorkellers and scuba divers. Other ocean activities are enjoyed there because of the crystal-clear water and the populations of deep-sea fishing species.
The island has a wide variety of corals and other species, with somtimes a sighting of larger species like turtles and dolphins. The island can only be visited as a guest of &Beyond Mnemba Island, who realized the paradise-like setting of the island's potential to become the logical end to a fabulous Tanzanian safari holiday.
Many snorkellers try to get to the reefs of Mnemba Island from the mainland about three kilometers away, just to be chased off by the staff of AndBeyond, since it is a private island.
Four distinctive habitats form the marine reserve which are home to marine wildlife like the threatened green turtles, which can be seen laying their eggs on the beaches between February and September, Humpback whales which vist from July to September, three species of dolphin, whale sharks and about 600 species of coral reef fish. Migratory and resident shore birds feed and roost on the Island.
