Pioneer Camp, Londolozi, Sabi Sand Game Reserve

Pioneer Camp at Londolozi

Location

Like the other Londolozi camps, Pioneer Camp is also situated on the banks of the Sand River.

It was here that the Varty and Taylor families had their first camp after a long trek to reach the place. They woke up the next morning to the same wonderful natural landscape that still exists today - no wonder they decided to stay and make this haven their home.

Lodge Features

Tracking

Tracking is an ancient art perfected by the hunters of Africa over thousands of years, with the knowledge gathered in the veldt, shared with the children of many generations of Bushmen and later hunters. An art essential to the success of the hunt as well as man's efforts towards preservation, Londolozi depends heavily on its trackers to follow and interpret animal and poacher spoor. To find and destroy snares and finally. to share some of their art with the guests of Londolozi. During the colder months. guests may be treated to time spent in the bush with one of these tracking artists to see them in action and to get a glimpse of their methods. It is a wonderful experience to share time with such a specialist of nature.

Astronomy Lectures

The trained Londolozi rangers will take you on a late-night excursion to see the wonders of the southern stellar sky.

Campfire Storytelling

Some of the most effective ways to relax is to sit next a campfire at night under the stars and to share life and bush stories with each other while enjoying a good wine or other drink of your choice. Rangers are well-known to entertain with good stories about real and not-so-real adventures that took place in the bush with wild animals and wilder characters as the main stars. At Londolozi this is a great tradition not to be missed.

The Cub's Den

For the children, a special program is in place to help them discover the intricate workings of nature in a way that children appreciate, maybe your son or daughter may decide to become a game ranger after a session with the Cub's Den.

Birding

Birding is alive and well at Londolozi with about 450 bird species from the smallest LBJ to the majestic raptors like the Marshal Eagle, Bateleur, Fish Eagle and other amazing birds.
