Serengeti National Park

The Serengeti is the "other side" of the famous wildebeest and zebra migration in the unit that consists of the Maasai Mara in Kenya and the Serengeti in Tanzania. Divided by a borderline that the animals are luckily not aware of, this wonderful piece of earth is home to the world's greatest concentration of wildlife. The Serengeti National Park is a must-do if you want to experience the extraordinary spectacle of the migration. The great waving open grasslands supply food to thousands of wildebeest and zebra with others like buffalo, elephant, giraffe, gazelle and antelope species thrown into the mix. Cattle belonging to Maasai tribesmen dressed in their traditional red robes also compete wilth the wildlife for their grazing. The migration typically follows a circle route from Maasai Mara in the north to the south of the Serengeti and back to repeat the process over and over.

A problem that this poses for a prospective safari involves timing, since these movements does not occur on exact dates and varies from year to year. The best is to choose a camp that follows the migration, or if possible, to make last-minute bookings to make sure the most spectacular sights are not missed. Luckily, the whole area has a year-round pleasant climate and one can experience the migration when the hordes are moving or you can enjoy the ample resident wildlife any time of the year. The variety of choices of accommodation, the diversity of animals and birds and the mild round-the-year climate in the Serengeti park, makes it, many believe, the best African safari.

The popularity of the Serengeti as a widlife safari destination has the effect that the place can get very crowded by people, resulting in a diminished game viewing experience. To get guaranteed limited visitor numbers with activities like night drives and guided walks, one can go to one of the private concessions around the main park offering all these advantages with a high level of luxury and friendly personal service. Selecting and booking the right place for you is what we do for a living, so check our range of tours and safaris and contact us to help you plan a Tanzanian holiday itinerary that suits your needs.
