Tuningi Safari Lodge
Location
Tuningi Safari Lodge is in the Madikwe Game Reserve in the North West Province of South Africa. Madikwe is about three & a half hours' driving distance from Johannesburg, or a one-hour flight.
Tuningi Safari Lodge is an elegant five star lodge set in a tranquil valley on the western side of the reserve.
Accommodation
Tuningi accommodates 16 guests in 8 elegant free standing suites (4 stand-alone one-bedroomed suites & 2 family suites each with two double bedrooms).
"Little Tuningi" is a part of the main lodge but can be booked as stand-alone accommodation. It accommodates only 6 guests in a double room and a family unit.
Lodge Features
Tuningi Safari Lodge combines the wonders of the African bushveld with the splendours of five star luxuries. The theme of the interior is "Colonial African Chic" and is stylish and comfortable. The main thatched lodge offers beautiful indoor and outdoor lounges, and an elegant dining room. The rim flow pool and gorgeous lounges give the lodge a sumptuous and welcoming feel.
The magnificent rim flow pool overlooks a waterhole which is frequently visited by elephant families and other game. The main entertainment and reception area of the lodge provide fantastic game viewing from the safety of an expansive wooden deck. This is all interlinked by a sweeping wooden deck that leads to a boma under an ancient sprawling fig tree. Tuningi gets its name from this ancient fig tree under which the boma is set; perfect for wonderful traditional dinners under the African sky.
This lovely lodge is specifically designed for families and caters for children of all ages. All suites have enormous bathrooms, outside showers, fireplaces and fabulous wooden decks. The rooms are set apart from each other to provide ultimate privacy and peace. The family units consist of two double bedrooms with an adjoining living and dining area.
Childrens' Programme
Tuningi is one of a few 5-star luxury game lodges in South Africa that welcomes children and by doing so avails them to the wonders of nature, wildlife and our delicate eco-system.
Children also get to go on their own game drive after breakfast to one of the waterholes with the Ranger. Before heading off on their drive the kids will be issued with a work book (those old enough) and are as such also included in activities.
"Little Tuningi"
"Little Tuningi" is a part of the main lodge but can be booked as stand-alone accommodation. It has a double room and a family unit as well as a private pool and boma (for outdoor meals around the fire). "Little Tuningi" accommodates only 6 guests in elegant luxury with a designer kitchen, boma area, dining room, lounge, wrap around wooden deck and private pool.
Purposely designed, "Little Tuningi" is completely self-contained for those guests that are in search of ultimate privacy. Guests do of course have access to the Main Lodge area and its facilities.
All rooms at Tuningi and "Little Tuningi" have air conditioning, ceiling fans, gas fireplaces, en-suite bathrooms, beautifully appointed baths, outdoor rock showers and private wrap around wooden decks. The design brief was to create space by blending interiors with the bush through utilising retractable doors and windows wherever possible.
